Are you a Chaplain with a passion for faith, spiritual care, and church relations? Do you thrive in an environment where you can provide ministry of Word and Sacrament and specialized spiritual care for the residents and staff of Luthercare? Luthercare is excited to announce a new opportunity for a Chaplain —a position focused on empowering our Church Relations and Spiritual Care. They will work closely with our Vice President of Church Relations and Spiritual Care at Luthercare.

 

We’re currently seeking a dedicated Chaplain at Luther Acres, a Luthercare community, to provide Church Relations and Spiritual Care services in Lititz, PA. This is an exempt-level, Sunday-Thursday position or potential Part-time position as well can be discussed.

What Makes This Role Exciting? 

As the Chaplain, you will: 

  1. Meet with residents upon admission and thereafter to assess spiritual needs and to offer ongoing spiritual support and counsel. Visit residents upon transfer to hospitals and other health care centers.
  2. Plan, arrange for, and conduct regular and special worship experiences (including regular celebration of Holy Communion, and services for Advent, Lent, Holy Week, Thanksgiving, and Christmas). Recruit area residents’ clergy to share in worship leadership, devotions, and Bible study. Provide coverage for other Luthercare Chaplains as needed. Attend resident funerals/viewings and conduct services as appropriate.
  3. Provide, or arrange for, spiritual care and support of residents and families of any faith tradition.
  4. Confer with medical and social service professionals on the progress of residents and contributes to the formulation of the interdisciplinary plan of care. Communicate any necessary adjustments to home pastors and families of the residents.
  5. Offer in-service training focused upon issues of spirituality and grief. Provide assistance/support to staff, families, and area clergy on issues of spiritual care and ethics.
  6. Participate as appropriate in relevant functions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, inclusive of the Lower Susquehanna Synod, Conferences of Pastors, chaplaincy networks and others as may be assigned or determined to be beneficial.
  7. In coordination with the Vice President of Church Relations & Spiritual Care present the mission of Luthercare to various groups and provides information to increase community awareness and promote development. Support open communication to ensure concerns of constituent congregations are addressed. Provide recommendations for improvement where possible. 

 

Education & Knowledge Requirements:  

  1. Rostered leader in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, or one of its full communion partner denominations.
  2. Four (4) units of clinical pastoral education.
  3. Denominational Endorsement for Specialized Pastoral Care.
  4. Board Certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains or approved equivalent certifying body, or Certification-eligible. 

Essential Job-Related Experience/Abilities:  

  1. Ability to maintain a therapeutic/pastoral attitude toward, and effective relationship with physically ill or infirm residents.
  2. Fit testing as needed per Luthercare’s Respiratory Prevention Program 

Preferred Job-Related Experience/Abilities/Education:  

  1. Five (5) years parish experience preferred.
  2. Basic computer skills and ability to utilize electronic health record processes.
